Couple holding a cheque claiming their lottery winnings

Couple win £1 million thinking it was a scam

A couple from Telford, England, are celebrating after bagging lottery winnings of £1 million on the lottery!

Ruth says she almost forgot to buy a ticket on the day of the draw due to her Karate class. But luckily, Rob reminded her to buy a ticket before leaving for class. If that wasn’t enough, the pair were convinced their winning email was a scam!

Ruth Giblin and her husband Rob only started playing the lottery together two years ago. They were going to stop playing after their first year of playing, but Ruth convinced Rob to continue for just one more year.

Narrowly claiming their lottery winnings…

The sceptical couple assumed it was a trick when they received a notice on the National Lottery app the next day.

They didn’t realise they were millionaires until they contacted Camelot to confirm their prize, at which point they broke into tears!

‘Rob set reminders for me to put the EuroMillions ticket on, as he has to every week, while I was away,’ says Mrs Giblin.

It was time to claim their lottery winnings!

Rob stated that he bought the ticket and soon forgot about it, going straight to Karate that evening. He explained that they got up early the following day for a swim when he received an email informing him they had excellent news regarding the ticket.

Rob continued to explain that when he got into his National Lottery app, he saw that he had only matched one number, but it said he had won £1 million, which baffled him.

Mrs Giblin, a leisure centre supervisor, was concerned it was a hoax and went online to look for the phone number she needed to call to verify the victory.

She explains that she was certain it was a hoax. However, when she noticed it was the exact number for Camelot, she tried to call it, only to find they were not yet open…

Rather than sitting around, they opted to go swimming even though it was all they could think about.

They then spoke about what they would do if it was real all the way home. However, they were trying not to get their hopes up.

What do they plan to do with the money?

They immediately told their two children and went to Mrs Giblin’s parent’s house to inform them on what was her father’s birthday.

The couple, who have been married for 23 years, intend to maintain their careers. They plan to share their newfound fortune with the rest of their family.

The pair have also paid their mortgage and are planning a luxury holiday and purchasing a new kitchen.

They intend to construct a summerhouse for their daughter and intend for her to use it as an art room. They also plan on buying a gaming computer for their 16-year-old son.

Ruth’s winning EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker code for the Friday, July 22, EuroMillions draw was TLBX74150.

Tips For Playing In A EuroMillions Superdraw

Buy More Lines

This may be an obvious tip, but a way to increase your odds of winning is by covering more numbers. So essentially, the more numbers you pick, the greater the chances of matching the winning numbers. However, the downside is that the more numbers you choose, the more the expense.

Here’s how Lottery Syndicates work…

Picture this, the EuroMillions Superdraw is at a massive £150 million, and you and your 9 friends are in a syndicate, buying 10 lines each. Representing 100 lines in all, each member is entitled to a 10% share.

You and your friends win!

Congratulations! This would mean that each member will have £15 million each, a 10% share of the £150 million jackpot.

If you had bought 10 lines without playing in a lottery syndicate, then the chances of winning the jackpot would reduce by 90%.

What Is A Lottery Syndicate?

A lottery syndicate is a group of people who buy lottery tickets collectively and share any winnings in proportion to each person’s contribution. By pooling their money and purchasing several tickets together, the group markedly improve their chances of winning the jackpot. Here at LottoSocial, our online syndicates offer a quick, easy and secure way to play in a syndicate!

What are the benefits of a lottery syndicate?

The main benefit of a lottery syndicate is the enhanced chance of success. For example, if somebody enters the National Lottery alone, they have about a one in 14,000,000 chance of winning the jackpot. Yet, if they play with a group of nine other players through LottoSocial, they’ll have a 10 in 14,000,000 chance of winning. Whilst you’ll have to share the prize with the rest of the group, the increased odds of bagging the main prize make this compromise well worth it! Being part of a syndicate is also a more cost-effective way of playing your favourite lotteries. You can spend what you usually would,  but with a much higher chance of success.

How do you set up a lottery syndicate?

Join a fully-managed syndicate like a LottoSocial syndicate! At LottoSocial we put you in online syndicate groups with others. This saves you the from having to find people to join your syndicate. The unfortunate reality with offline syndicates is that there is a risk of deceit and deception from certain members. This can lead to others missing out on the prize money. When playing in a fully-managed online syndicate, you can avoid this kind of risk altogether. Online syndicates guarantee you the prize money from any draws you enter.

Here at Lotto Social, we will automatically purchase your tickets, add them to existing syndicates and manage any payouts for you. There is no chance of a syndicate member refusing to share the winnings. All you need to worry about is how you spend that prize money! Moreover, we bring our customers together to play the lottery by providing spaces for you to chat and join new communities. The clue is in our name. We ensure the lottery is no longer an individual game but a social one!

The importance of a lottery syndicate manager and a binding agreement

If you’re forming your own syndicate offline, it’s essential to have a binding contract setting out the rules of playing. You’ll also need to appoint a syndicate manager. When playing through LottoSocial, all of this is automatically taken care of. We will handle the purchasing of tickets and distributing winnings.

By agreeing to our terms and conditions, you agree to be bound to this setup. You do not have to worry about appointing a syndicate manager or organising anything. It is also imperative for all members to sign a binding agreement to help prevent issues.

The agreement should outline:

  • Who each member is and what duties they have (e.g. the syndicate manager)
  • How much each individual is contributing
  • Date of the syndicate creation
  • A formal payout procedure detailing what happens in the event of a win

Your syndicate agreement should also include clauses for members wishing to join or leave the syndicate and what happens in the event of a missed payment. All of this will settle any disputes. Such as, if you win big and a member or two claims they’re entitled to a larger share than everyone else. This will protect every member and guarantee fairness. All members must sign the agreement to certify that they understand and agree with the terms outlined and make it binding.

For online syndicates, all of these considerations are in the terms and conditions members agree to when signing up. As a result, there is no need to draw up your own agreement. You do not need a license or permission to form your own syndicate, although you must create it in a particular way to ensure that it doesn’t ‘promote a lottery’ under the Gambling Act 2005. Due to this, the syndicate manager must be the only ticket holder and the sole member with a direct claim. If every syndicate member had direct claims, this would be ‘promoting a lottery’.

By increasing your chances of winning, playing in a lottery syndicate is a no-brainer if you’re looking to get rich! With LottoSocial syndicates offering a more straightforward way of entering lottery draws as a collective, you can now be part of a syndicate in no time.
